Tension at Abuja Independence Festival Over Pro-Tinubu Rally

Youths confront individuals at Abuja Independence Day festival at Triple R Monoliza Park over attempt to stage pro-Tinubu rally

Tension broke out at the Abuja Independence Day festival held at Triple R Monoliza Park after youths pushed back against an alleged attempt to turn the celebration into a political rally in support of President Bola Tinubu.

The incident disrupted the festival atmosphere as young attendees insisted the event should remain a national celebration and not a campaign ground.

A video circulating on social media captured the confrontation. It showed angry youths chasing and hitting individuals described as political thugs who were allegedly trying to convert the festival into a campaign event for the President.

The clash created panic at the venue and interrupted activities. The confrontation reportedly led to damage to equipment and chairs at the park.

The identities of those who attempted to stage the rally and the extent of the damage have not been officially confirmed. The video remains the main source of public account of the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The Abuja Independence Day festival was organised as part of activities marking the national celebration.

Incident comes days after Warri protest

The Abuja incident comes days after a similar protest by youths during a 5-kilometre Independence Day run in Warri, Delta State.

In Warri, participants were seen tearing up branded polo shirts bearing President Tinubu's image. The youths also chanted in support of opposition figure, Peter Obi.

No official reaction has been linked to either incident.
