Enugu State perceived as the capital of the East is an ancient city where Anambra and Ebonyi is created from.
The former capital of the old Anambra State is in a deep mess economically. Today the state is struggling with a whole lot, before now Enugu which means Enugwu (the hill top) has a water issue.
The resident and indigenous people of the state has complained for years for lack of access to water.
Subsequent Government has laid pipes to resolve the age long crisis in the state but the situation still persist till date.
During the emergent of the administration of Governor Peter Mbah, 6 to 8 months was given as a benchmark for resolving the water crisis. An expert, a whiteman, was employed to head the team but to no avail.
It will be wrong to say that Governor Peter Mbah has not put all known machinery to ground to ensure the water crisis in the state is a thing of the past but the problem is beyond as articulated.
Water is a known crisis in Enugu but worried as I am the state government is consciously creating another problem more endangered than the water crisis in the state.
The rate of house rent in the state is alarming to say the least, since Peter Mbah came with his intensive drive on revenue generation, house rent that was once N350,000.00 is now going for N1,500,000 about 328.57% increase and the Government is not seeing the need to regulate this menace.
Worst still the last minimum wage approval, Enugu State approved N80,000 naira as minimum wage but was not implemented only those at the minimum level received the wage award but officers above level 04 only received 25,000 as addition.
As at today Enugu State workers is the worst paid in the country. What the Government never understand or refused to understand is that the government is consciously impoverishing his own people and making Enugu economy more adverse to business.
Each morning you see students, workers jumb unto an open truck as a means of transportation as a result of the economic hardship in the State.
The open truck cost N200 from Abakpa to Queens school or Waec while on a regular bus transportation the cost is N800 to Waec and N1000 to Queens School.
The Parliative buses Tinubu Government provided also for Enugu State is used in locations for best revenue generation and never as a service, as a means of reducing transport cost.
And also to point out, the political tension and climate in the state, the pocket of political thuggery harassing opponents, when thuggery is returning back to the state after former Governor Sullivan Chime eliminate that menace is a concern for every well meaning Ndi-Enugu
I must say this, Peter Mbah has done a handful in the state, majorly, all moribund infrastructure in the state has received a face-lift and Ndi-Enugu appreciate the work well done.
But for the Government to continue to overlook is workers and the pain his workforce is undergoing, concentrating on revenue only and not service, neglecting the high rate of house rent in the state without a means of mitigation, the age long water issue still a major concern and now this political thuggery returning gradually, Enugu is becoming an endangered city.
