Osimhen, Tems, Okonjo-Iweala, Chimamanda & Burna Boy Named Among 2025 Africa’s Top 100 Peace Icons

Top Nigerians have been identified for recognition in the 2025 list of 100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa. Among the list are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Aliko Dangote, Burna Boy, Victor Osimhen, and other notable Nigerians. 

The announcement was made at a conference in Abuja on Wednesday. The list features influential Africans from different fields, including business, sports, and politics. Among them is Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian football star who plays for Liverpool FC. Other honorees include:

  • Femi Otedola (Nigerian businessman)
  • Dr. Angel Josephat Natianota (CEO, HR World Limited Tanzania)
  • Prof. Mthuli Ncube (Finance Minister, Zimbabwe)
  • Munyakazi Sadate (CEO, Karame Rwanda Group)

Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, Project Director for the initiative, explained that the selection was based on each individual’s efforts in promoting peace, empowering youth, and driving positive change in their communities.

"These leaders have shown dedication to Africa’s growth, using their influence to inspire unity and progress," he said.

The award ceremony will take place in July 2025 at the "100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit" in Kigali, Rwanda. The event will focus on governance, business growth, and sustainable development, bringing together experts, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to discuss Africa’s economic future.

The event, themed ‘Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment opportunities and Sustainable Development in Africa’, will bring together economic experts, government officials, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and other stakeholders to foster inclusive discussions on Africa’s economic growth

Amafibe emphasized the need for strong leadership and collaboration to tackle economic challenges and boost investment across the continent.

"By working together, African nations can create more opportunities in trade, education, and security," he added.

This recognition highlights the impactful work of these leaders in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous Africa.
