A viral video featuring a retired superintendent of police has sparked reactions across the country after he revealed he received just ₦2 million as his total benefit following 35 years of service.
The retired officer, who left the force on October 1, 2023, disclosed that he was recently informed by the Nigeria Police Pension Board that a total of ₦3 million was approved, ₦2 million as his terminal benefit and ₦1 million as arrears from October 2023. Displeased with the sum, he called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the matter.
In response, the IGP, through Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, directed the NPF Pensions Limited to urgently probe the claims, identify any possible discrepancies, and take proper action to address the situation.
Egbetokun reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired officers, stressing that efficient pension administration is key to maintaining morale and trust in the system.
He acknowledged that reform efforts are underway but emphasized that open feedback, such as the concerns raised in the video is necessary to drive meaningful change.
