Eddie Murphy Defends Norbit, Admits Some Movie Regrets

Hollywood icon Eddie Murphy has admitted that not all his movies have been hits, but he insists his quirky 2007 rom-com Norbit deserves more credit than it got.

Speaking with Complex, the comedy legend openly called Pluto Nash and Holy Man some of his weaker projects. However, he stood firmly by Norbit, which he co-wrote with his late brother and fellow actor, Charlie Murphy, saying they were both proud of the final cut.

The film, which earned an Oscar nomination for its impressive makeup work, was also hit with eight Golden Raspberry nods — Hollywood’s not-so-prestigious awards for the year’s worst films.

Eddie believes the backlash was harsher than deserved, especially since it came right after his Oscar-nominated performance in Dreamgirls.

Despite the criticism, audiences turned out in droves — Norbit raked in $159 million against its $60 million budget.

Murphy also revealed one career regret: choosing to star in Holy Man instead of Rush Hour, admitting the lure of shooting in glamorous Miami won out over doing kung-fu fight scenes in Chinatown.

The actor, who has been in the industry for over four decades, recently added a fresh chapter to his filmography with The Pickup, co-starring Pete Davidson.
