Hilda Baci Breaks Guinness Record with 8,780kg Jollof Rice

Hilda Baci Cooks Her Way into the Guinness World Records – Again

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again put Nigeria on the global culinary map, this time by setting a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.

The historic feat was achieved on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Victoria Island, Lagos, where Hilda and her team cooked an astonishing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz) of the iconic West African dish.

The Guinness World Records officially confirmed the achievement on Monday, September 15, posting on X (formerly Twitter):

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

The atmosphere at the venue was nothing short of electric. Music, dancing, and cheering filled the air as food lovers, fans, and celebrities gathered to witness the record-breaking moment.

Hilda, who became a household name after her viral cook-a-thon in 2023, partnered with food brand Gino to pull off this massive cooking challenge.

She revealed that the custom-made pot used for the event could hold 22,619 litres, and her goal was to fill it up to 80% capacity. Initially, she planned to use about 250 bags of basmati rice, but later scaled it down to 200 bags after considering the weight limits of the measuring equipment.

“Including the pot, the scale could only handle about 20,000kg, so we had to be very precise,” Hilda explained after the event. “The rice we cooked still came to over 4,000 kilogrammes, enough to feed about 20,000 people.”

The record attempt became a star-studded celebration, with prominent personalities joining in to support Hilda. Nollywood actress Funke Akindele mounted the stage, cheered loudly, and even joined Hilda in stirring the tomato base for the rice.

The First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, was also present to lend her support, praising Hilda’s determination and creativity.

Other celebrities spotted at the event included dancer Kaffy, media personality Tomike Adeoye, influencers Enioluwa, Peller, Veekee James, Alex Unusual, and musicians Spyro and Femi Atere, among others.

The event was more than just a record attempt — it was a celebration of Nigerian culture and food. By setting this record, Hilda has once again spotlighted jollof rice, one of Nigeria’s most beloved dishes, on the world stage.

Guinness World Records had sent her words of encouragement before the attempt, tweeting, “What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

For many Nigerians, Hilda’s victory is not just personal but national — a reminder that Nigerian cuisine continues to gain recognition globally.
