Ejimakor’s Health Worsens at Kuje Prison as Bail Remains Unsigned
Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, is currently unwell inside Kuje Prison, Abuja. His health deterioration comes just a day after a Kuje Senior Magistrate, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, refused to sign the bail bond that would have secured his release.
Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that Ejimakor struggled to sit or stand when he woke, prompting nurses at the prison clinic to attend to him. There are reports he might be moved to a hospital soon.
Ejimakor was arrested alongside 12 others, including Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother. They were picked up by Nigerian police during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
The group was later subjected to teargas and physical assault before being taken to the police CID and detained overnight at the infamous SARS “Abattoir” cell.
The following day, without any legal representation, they were brought before Magistrate Sai’id at the Kuje Magistrate Court. Despite a previous arrangement that seemed to ensure their detention, the magistrate granted bail but then vanished without approving the necessary documents.
Among those arraigned with Ejimakor on Friday was human rights activist and two-time presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore. Ejimakor remains in the Kuje prison clinic, where his health is rapidly declining as he awaits proper treatment amid ongoing concerns about his welfare
