Australia’s PM Albanese Marries Partner Jodie Haydon

Australia PM Anthony Albanese marries Jodie Haydon, making history as the first sitting prime minister to wed while in office.

Australia witnessed a rare moment in its political history as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese officially married his partner, Jodie Haydon. The ceremony makes him the first sitting Australian leader to wed while still in office.

The couple exchanged vows on Saturday afternoon at The Lodge, Albanese’s official residence in Canberra. The wedding took place just a day after parliament concluded its final session for the year.

In a short statement shared with the media, Albanese said they were “absolutely delighted” to celebrate their love with close friends and family present. He described it as a joyful moment they had long looked forward to.

For security reasons, the wedding was kept low-key. Only immediate family members and a few senior cabinet ministers attended. Haydon’s parents were there, while Albanese’s son, Nathan, also witnessed the ceremony.

A sweet highlight of the day came when the prime minister’s dog, Toto, acted as ring bearer. After saying “I do,” the newlyweds walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s timeless hit, Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours), with guests tossing confetti in the air. Albanese later posted a video capturing the cheerful scene.

The reception carried more sentimental touches. Their first dance was to Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight, while guests enjoyed custom-made beer cans featuring the couple’s engagement photo.

Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 47, got engaged on Valentine’s Day last year. Their relationship began in 2020 after meeting at a business event in Melbourne when he was still opposition leader.

The couple will spend next week honeymooning within Australia a shorter getaway than originally planned due to the prime minister’s re-election schedule.
