Edo TikToker Arrested for Faking Her Own Kidnap Story

Edo TikToker Madam Oil Rice is in police net after allegedly faking her own kidnap for engagement.

The Edo State Police Command has detained Benin-based TikTok creator, Osarobo Omoyemen, widely known as Madam Oil Rice, over claims that she staged her own kidnap to gain social media attention.

The 24-year-old was arrested over the weekend after posting a viral video in which she alleged she had been abducted along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City. She also claimed police officers “rescued” her and detained her at Akpata Police Station, where she supposedly paid ₦10,000 as bail.

Police spokesperson, CPS Moses Yamu, revealed that investigators immediately launched a probe, which exposed the entire tale as fabricated. During questioning, Omoyemen reportedly confessed she cooked up the drama purely to spark engagement on her TikTok page.

Further checks showed she had earlier deleted another video where someone in the background urged viewers to follow her account — a clip police say clearly showed the motive behind the false alarm.

The Command condemned the act as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary tension or inciting hostility against law enforcement officers. Yamu warned the public against spreading falsehoods that could disturb the peace or derail security operations in the state.

Omoyemen has been charged to court as of Thursday, November 20, 2025, while police say efforts are ongoing to arrest her accomplices.

Authorities insist the case should serve as a strong reminder that social media stunts with security implications will not be tolerated.
