A late-night operation by the Kano State Hisba Board has led to the arrest of nine youths accused of engaging in prostitution, a practice locally known as “Good Evening Girls.”
The arrests followed a targeted end-of-year crackdown carried out on Friday night across key parts of Kano metropolis, according to officials of the religious enforcement agency.
Confirming the development, the Board’s Deputy Commander-General, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, said Hisba operatives were deployed to areas identified as regular hotspots for the activity. Eight girls and one male were taken into custody during the sweep.
Investigators say the girls, aged between 15 and 20, allegedly operated by approaching or being picked up by affluent individuals, who would then transport them to private locations in exchange for cash payments. The amounts involved reportedly ranged from ₦5,000 to ₦30,000 per encounter.
The coordinated operation covered several major routes and neighbourhoods, including Zoo Road, Banana Zoo Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Lamido Crescent, Tukur Road, Lodge Road, Nassarawa Hospital Road, Magajin Rumfa Road, Sultan Road in Nassarawa, and Audu Bako Way.
Aminuddeen noted that some of the suspects admitted to having engaged in the activity for an extended period, prompting renewed concern over the involvement of minors and vulnerable youths.
He stated that the Hisba Board would intensify patrols and surveillance across similar locations in a bid to enforce Shari’a law and curb what it described as rising social vices within the state.
Beyond enforcement, the Hisba official also directed a message to parents and guardians, urging them to take a more active role in guiding their children, particularly young girls, to prevent exposure to exploitation and moral risks.
According to him, investigations into the case are ongoing, and all suspects will be formally charged in court once the process is concluded.
