Jake Paul is recovering after being knocked out by Anthony Joshua, who shattered his jaw in their Dec. 19 heavyweight bout. 

‎In the Miami fight, Joshua, a former world champion, floored Paul four times and stopped him in the sixth round. 

‎Paul underwent surgery to repair the damage, doctors installed two titanium plates in his jaw and even removed some damaged teeth. 

‎He now faces a week on a liquid diet and several weeks of healing before returning to the ring.

‎Anthony Joshua dominated the bout with Jake Paul in Miami on Dec. 19. The two met in a headline fight at the Kaseya Center, and Joshua’s size and power showed early. Paul was dropped twice in the fifth round and twice again in the sixth. 

‎After the final knockdown, referee halted the match and awarded Joshua the victory by technical knockout. 

‎The win improved Joshua’s record (29-4, 26 KOs) and handed Paul the first KO loss of his career. 

‎The result was widely shared on social media and news outlets, drawing attention from boxing fans in Nigeria and beyond.

‎Anthony Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion with British and Nigerian heritage, said in post-fight comments that he felt the need to finish strongly.

‎Paul’s Injuries and Surgery

‎After the fight, Paul was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Doctors confirmed he had sustained fractures in two places on his lower jaw.

‎On Dec. 20, Paul underwent surgery at Miami University Hospital to repair the damage. Surgeons inserted two titanium plates – one on each side of the jaw to stabilize the fractures. 

‎They also removed some of Paul’s damaged teeth to prevent further complications.

‎Paul later posted updates from his hospital room on social media. He shared an X-ray image showing the plates and wrote, “Surgery went well… 2 titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed. Have to have only liquids for 7 days…”. 

‎He added that he was feeling “lots of pain and stiffness” in the aftermath of the surgery. In a brief video and photo, Paul gave a thumbs-up from his recovery bed and thanked his medical team. 

‎His fiancée, Olympic speedskater Jutta Leerdam, posted a supportive heart emoji in response to his update.
