Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has formally declared his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition political landscape.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has officially declared for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 31, in Enugu, the Enugu State capital, during a political gathering attended by key leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone.
Peter Obi was joined by several prominent South-East political leaders who also announced their decision to align with the ADC after what they described as months of wide-ranging consultations.
According to the leaders, the move is part of a broader strategy to build a strong, united opposition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on the decision, Obi and the South-East leaders said their decision to join the ADC was driven by the urgent need to collaborate with other opposition figures across the country.
They stressed that the alliance is aimed at “rescuing Nigeria from poor governance” and offering citizens a credible alternative ahead of future elections.
Peter Obi’s declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is expected to reshape opposition politics, particularly in the South-East, where he enjoys strong grassroots support.
Political observers say the development could signal the beginning of a broader coalition ahead of the next general election cycle.
