Iranian Teen Influencer Baby Rider Killed as Protests Continue to Rock Iran

Iranian protests after rial collapse as teen influencer killed

A 19-year-old Iranian motorcycle influencer, widely known online as “Baby Rider,” has been killed during Iran’s ongoing anti-government protests, drawing fresh global attention to the crisis.

The protests erupted on December 28, 2025, after Iran’s currency, the rial, collapsed to a record low of about 1.4 million to one US dollar.

What began as anger over rising prices and job losses quickly turned into nationwide demonstrations against the government.

According to reports, protests have spread to more than 400 cities, making them the most serious challenge to Iran’s leadership since the 1979 revolution.

Many demonstrators initially demanded economic relief but later called for wider political change.

Security forces responded with force. The Human Rights Activists News Agency reports that at least 2,615 people have been killed, with over 10,000 arrested. Witness accounts point to the use of live ammunition, tear gas, and mass detentions.

On January 8, authorities imposed a nationwide internet and telecommunications blackout, further limiting access to information and isolating protesters from the outside world.

The death of “Baby Rider,” a young figure with a strong social media following, has intensified online activism.

Hashtags demanding justice have spread across platforms, turning his killing into a symbol of the wider unrest.

International pressure is also mounting. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for an immediate end to the violence and the restoration of communication services.

In the United States, President Donald Trump warned that continued violence could lead to serious consequences, including the possibility of military action, if the crackdown does not stop.

As protests continue, the killing of a teenage influencer has put a human face on Iran’s deepening crisis, amplifying global scrutiny of the government’s response and the demands of its citizens.
