The Lagos Assembly is calling for the urgent rescue of Binuyo Lateefah, a corps member kidnapped on her way to camp.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on security agencies to act fast and rescue a prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Binuyo Lateefah, from kidnappers.
The victim, a Mass Communication graduate from Kwara State Polytechnic, was abducted on January 22, 2026. She was traveling through Kogi State to reach her duty post in Taraba when the incident happened.
During a recent plenary session, Hon. Omolara Olumegbon, who chairs the Committee on Women Affairs, raised the alarm. She revealed that the kidnappers are now demanding a staggering N30 million ransom for her release.
Worried by the trend, the lawmakers urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to work closely with the Kogi State government to ensure the young graduate returns home safely.
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa described the situation as heartbreaking. He noted that it is painful for parents to spend so much on education, only for their children to be kidnapped while trying to serve their fatherland.
The House also suggested that the NYSC management should rethink its posting policy. Lawmakers argued that sending young graduates to far-flung, high-risk areas exposes them to avoidable dangers on the road.
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction. Police spokesperson Saliu Afusat stated that security forces are already working behind the scenes to secure Lateefah’s freedom.
While the police have kept specific details of the rescue operation private, the Lagos Assembly is insisting on a swift resolution to prevent future occurrences.
