Ondo Police arrest seven suspects over a ₦20.45m store theft in Ore, uncovering an inside job involving staff and buyers.
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested seven people over the alleged theft of goods worth ₦20.45 million from a commercial store in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.
Police say the case involves a planned operation carried out over a long period, allegedly driven by insiders who had direct access to the store.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the complaint was filed on January 3, 2026, by the store owner, Ogunyomi Segun, a resident of Ore.
Segun told police that between 2024 and early January 2026, some of his employees secretly worked together to remove goods from his shop without his knowledge.
Items allegedly stolen include assorted soft drinks, Trophy cans, and other canned beverages. Police estimate the total value of the missing goods at ₦20,450,000.
Investigators identified three staff members as key suspects. They include the storekeeper, Oyineke Joseph; the computer operator, Abioye Yusuf; and another employee, Abdullahi Quadir.
Police also arrested four others accused of receiving and transporting the stolen items. They are Micheal Njoku, Agu Monday, Ikuemehin Oloruntimilehin, and a driver identified as Ojewuyi.
DSP Jimoh said investigations revealed that each suspect played a specific role in the alleged conspiracy. During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed and explained how the operation was carried out.
The police spokesperson confirmed that all seven suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
The arrest highlights growing concerns around internal theft in commercial businesses and the need for stronger oversight and accountability within retail operations.
