ADC Suspends Jimi Lawal in Ogun Over Anti-Party Acts

ADC suspension of Jimi Lawal in Ogun sparks party restructuring and caretaker committee setup.

ADC suspends Jimi Lawal in Ogun State over anti-party activities

African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has suspended Jimi Adebola Lawal over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was announced on Saturday in Abeokuta by the state chairman, Femi Soluade. The party also set up a caretaker committee to manage its affairs pending a state congress.

Lawal, a former aide to Nasir El-Rufai, was accused of actions the party described as inconsistent with ADC’s principles and internal democratic process.

According to Soluade, Lawal allegedly attempted to take control of party structures by acquiring influence over two local government chapters.

The chairman said this move disrupted the existing leadership framework at both state and local levels.

As a result, the party declared him suspended and no longer recognised as a member.

The crisis reportedly affected party leadership in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu local government areas.

Soluade said the ADC has now restored the original leadership structures in both councils. He explained that the move is aimed at rebuilding trust, restoring balance, and strengthening internal unity.

Beyond the suspension, the party unveiled a caretaker committee to oversee operations until a state congress is held.

The chairman described the development as part of a broader restructuring plan to stabilise the party and ensure smoother internal governance.
