NDLEA operatives have intercepted a major drug trafficking ring involving a China-based businessman and a prisoner.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disrupted several high-profile drug trafficking attempts, leading to the arrest of a China-based Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals.
Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, who recently moved to Guangzhou, was intercepted at the Kano airport while heading to China. After a body scan confirmed he had swallowed illicit substances, he excreted 52 pellets of cocaine.
In a similar incident at the same airport, two Angolans, Mbandu Martins Makiadi and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, were caught attempting to smuggle cocaine to Turkey. The duo, recruited by a spare parts dealer in Luanda, excreted over 2 kilograms of the drug.
NDLEA officers at the Lagos airport uncovered a plot by a convicted drug lord, Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, to export cocaine from behind bars.
Oladimeji, who is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, attempted to smuggle 1.10kg of cocaine hidden inside bags of processed cassava granules, popularly known as Garri.
The convict used his logistics company to coordinate the move, but eagle-eyed officers intercepted the shipment. A staff member of the company was arrested at the scene, revealing that the instruction came directly from the prison.
The agency’s crackdown extended into residential areas and local forests. In Lagos, operatives raided a luxury duplex in Lekki used as a laboratory for "Colorado," a synthetic strain of cannabis. One suspect was arrested with over 13kg of the drug.
In Ibadan, a 45-year-old female dealer, Oluwayemisi Bunmi, was nabbed with a variety of drugs and nearly ₦3 million in cash. Meanwhile, in Edo State, five suspects were arrested during a forest raid where over 560kg of skunk were recovered.
Other notable seizures included cannabis hidden inside a children’s toy guitar sent from Enugu and over 100,000 tramadol pills intercepted in Kwara State.
The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the officers for their alertness. He urged them to remain steadfast in the ongoing fight against drug supply across the country.
