Ramadan 2026 begins Wednesday as the Sultan of Sokoto confirms the moon sighting across various parts of Nigeria.
The wait is over for the Muslim faithful in Nigeria as the holy month of Ramadan officially kicks off this Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
This confirmation came directly from the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.
In a late-Tuesday announcement, the Sultanate Council revealed that the new crescent moon was spotted in several locations across the country.
For millions of Nigerians, this moon sighting signals the beginning of Ramadan 1447AH. It marks a period of deep spiritual reflection, daily fasting from dawn to dusk, and increased devotion.
The Sultan, who serves as the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), urged the Ummah to use this sacred time for prayer and acts of charity.
As one of the five pillars of Islam, the month is not just about abstaining from food and drink. It is a time for Nigerians to strengthen their faith and show kindness to the less privileged in their communities.
With the official declaration now public, mosques across the nation are expected to begin Taraweeh prayers as the fasting season commences in full.
