Real Madrid is hunting for a new midfield star, but Jorge Mendes’ €70m offer for Rodrigo Mora might not be the right fit.
The search for a midfield "engine" at the Santiago Bernabéu is heating up. Real Madrid has made it clear that come June, their top priority is to sign a player who can dictate the tempo and control the game from the middle of the park.
While PSG’s Vitinha and AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit are already high on their wishlist, a new name has landed on the table.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered FC Porto’s young sensation, Rodrigo Mora, to the Spanish giants.
The price tag is a staggering €70 million. While there is a slight chance the fee could be negotiated downward, dealing with Porto is rarely easy, and Madrid knows it.
Interestingly, Mora is not a stranger to the scouts at Valdebebas. Real Madrid has been tracking the Portuguese youngster for quite some time. However, there is a catch: Mora is primarily an attacking midfielder.
Currently, the Real Madrid squad is "overbooked" with attacking talent. What the team actually needs is a creative deep-lying playmaker, someone in the mold of Vitinha or even Joao Neves to balance the squad.
From the player’s side, the vibe is clear. Rodrigo Mora is ready to pack his bags for Madrid. Even though he knows the competition for a starting spot would be fierce, he is reportedly eager to take the leap and prove his worth at the highest level.
For now, the Madrid board is keeping its options open, weighing the heavy price tag against their specific tactical needs before the summer window opens.
