The Ebonyi State government has taken a firm stand following the tragic abduction and murder of Eze Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike.

Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed all security agencies in the state to immediately unravel the circumstances behind the royal father’s death.

Eze Igwe, who was the father of the state’s immediate past Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, was snatched by gunmen last Sunday. Heartbreakingly, the incident happened while the monarch was on his way to church for morning worship.

In a move that showed the gravity of the loss, Governor Nwifuru cancelled a scheduled State Executive Council meeting. Instead, he led the council members on a heavy-hearted visit to the monarch’s palace to commiserate with the grieving family and the Ikwo Noyo clan.

During the visit, the Governor gave a glimmer of hope for justice. He revealed that the police have already apprehended some suspects in connection with the crime.

He assured the public that no stone would be left unturned until every perpetrator involved is made to face the law.

Governor Nwifuru described the late traditional ruler as an "accomplished elder statesman." He noted that Eze Igwe was a courageous leader who spent his life serving his people with total dedication.

"Privacy, safety, and the protection of our traditional institutions are paramount," the Governor’s office stated, urging the family to bear the monumental loss with fortitude.

The eldest son of the late monarch and former Deputy Governor, Barrister Kelechi Igwe, spoke on behalf of the family.

He expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s personal commitment to the rescue efforts since the abduction was first reported.

While the family mourns, the arrest of early suspects marks a significant step in the state’s fight against insecurity and targeted kidnappings of high-profile citizens.
