Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly left Riyadh for Madrid as regional conflict in the Middle East intensifies.
Football legend and Al-Nassr captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has reportedly moved his family out of Saudi Arabia. The 41-year-old superstar departed for Madrid, Spain, late Monday night, following a sharp increase in military tensions across the Middle East.
The move comes after a series of alarming security incidents in the region. Over the weekend, the United States embassy in Riyadh was targeted by two drones, causing a fire and minor damage.
This attack follows a major US-Israeli strike in Iran that reportedly claimed the life of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Ronaldo didn't take any chances with the safety of his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, and their five children. According to flight tracking data from Flightradar24, his luxury £61 million ($81 million) Bombardier Global Express 6500 private jet left Riyadh at 8:00 pm.
The aircraft flew over Egypt and the Mediterranean, landing safely in the Spanish capital around 1:00 am.
Riyadh, which has served as Ronaldo's home since his historic move to the Saudi Pro League, has become increasingly unsettled by the regional conflict.
With Iran declaring 40 days of mourning and retaliatory strikes being reported as far as Bahrain, the atmosphere in the Gulf has shifted from celebration to caution.
While the Saudi Ministry of Defence described the embassy drone strike as causing only "minor material damage," the psychological impact on high-profile residents appears significant.
For now, the world's most famous footballer is back in familiar territory in Madrid, as fans wait to see how this sudden departure will affect his commitment to Al-Nassr.
