Payroll error leads to arrest in Arkansas after a woman allegedly kept $19,388 mistakenly paid by her former employer.

Arkansas payroll error case: Rene Nichole Coleman arrested after allegedly refusing to return $19,388 overpayment.

A woman in Arkansas has been arrested after allegedly refusing to return money her former employer says was paid to her by mistake.

Police say 50-year-old Rene Nichole Coleman of Jonesboro was taken into custody on Monday after a judge found probable cause to charge her with theft involving more than $5,000 but less than $25,000.

According to an affidavit cited in the report, the CEO of a Jonesboro-area business said a payroll system mistake paid Coleman $1,650 an hour for a 12-hour shift on August 12, 2025.

The filing says Coleman was normally paid $16.50 an hour. In total, she was allegedly overpaid $19,388.

The CEO reportedly went to police after Coleman declined to return the money. Financial records and emails were also turned over to investigators to support the complaint.

The affidavit further alleges that officers later contacted Coleman by phone, and she agreed to meet them but never showed up.

Coleman was arrested on a bench warrant obtained on August 18, 2025, and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center. A judge set her bond at $15,000 cash or surety.

She is expected back in court on May 18.
