A joyful Easter Sunday turned tragic in Delta State. A commercial tricycle rider, popularly known as a Keke operator, lost his life in a freaky accident.

‎The incident occurred along the busy Okpanam road, near the state capital, Asaba. A passenger who was onboard the tricycle also died in the crash.

‎According to eye witnesses, the tragedy struck during a heavy rainstorm. Strong winds uprooted a massive mango tree by the roadside. The tree came crashing down directly on the moving tricycle.

‎Locals described the tree as very old, noting that it had stood there for decades. The sudden force of the windstorm proved too much for its roots.

‎Sadly, the victims died instantly from the impact. Their identities could not be verified at the time of this report.

‎Residents have expressed worry over the safety of such trees. Similar incidents have been reported in the past where old branches fall on vehicles during storms. Authorities are yet to comment on the safety measures for roadside trees.
