A prominent Urhobo leader, Chief Olori Magege, outlines qualities needed for the next Delta Central Senator ahead of 2027.
The recent talk about splitting Delta State to create Anioma State has stirred fresh political debates. A prominent Urhobo leader, Chief Olori Magege, has weighed in on the kind of senator needed for Delta Central in 2027.
He believes the district requires a political strategist. This person must be capable of navigating the complex changes that would follow the creation of a new state.
Chief Magege pointed out that if Anioma State is actualized, the remaining core Delta would need to be reorganized. This brings a challenge of delineation for the three senatorial districts.
He argued that Urhobo land must not be shortchanged in the process. The next senator must possess the diplomatic skills to protect the interests of the people.
Speaking on the upcoming race, the former Waste Management Board Chairman described it as an internal affair of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that the opposition parties seem invisible at the moment.
Several heavyweights have already indicated interest in the seat. Notable names include Senator Ede Dafinone and former Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege.
Others are Chief O’tega Emerhor, Barr Samuel Mariere, and Prof. Patrick Muoboghare. Chief Fred Majemite and Chief John Nani are also in the running.
While acknowledging the loyalty of these aspirants to the Urhobo nation, Magege highlighted a major hurdle. He observed that the high cost of nomination forms remains a significant barrier for many hopefuls.
