Nigeria Police launches recruitment for its elite Drone Section, targeting tech-savvy officers and engineers nationwide.
The Nigeria Police Force is expanding its technological arsenal. The force has launched a fresh recruitment drive for its specialized Drone Section under the Police Airwing.
The goal is simple. The police want officers who already understand how to operate and manage drones to strengthen their aerial surveillance capabilities.
A police wireless message dated May 13, 2026, and obtained by SaharaReporters, confirmed this development. The internal signal, referenced CB:4001/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL., came directly from the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Top police bosses are taking this drive seriously. The message directed all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in Zones 1 to 17 and State Commissioners of Police to act fast. They have been ordered to submit names and details of qualified personnel interested in joining the elite unit.
Who exactly are they looking for? The police want personnel who already have practical knowledge of drone operations. Officers who have attended formal drone training or are currently flying drones in their various commands are encouraged to apply.
There is also a special advantage for certain cadets. The police authorities stated that cadet officers who studied computer science, engineering, or related tech courses will be given priority during the selection process.
The submission process is strict and detailed. Commands must provide the force number, rank, full name, current command, date of enlistment, retirement date, and active phone number of every applicant.
All applications must reach the Police Airwing headquarters in Abuja on or before Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The police leadership also mandated that these submissions be made in both hard and soft copies.
Key departments at the Force Headquarters are keeping a close eye on the process. The directive was officially copied to the Inspector-General of Police’s Secretariat, the Department of Finance and Administration, and the Department of Training and Development.
