Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, is set to represent Nigeria in South Africa. This follows a strategic diplomatic reshuffle approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fani-Kayode was initially nominated as an ambassador to Germany in March 2026. However, a new arrangement has seen him swapped with Senator Ita Solomon Enang. While Fani-Kayode heads to South Africa, Senator Enang will now take up the posting in Germany.
The former minister confirmed this development in a statement released on Thursday. He revealed that he personally requested the change shortly after the initial list was made public.
According to him, the decision was driven by personal and ideological convictions. Fani-Kayode stated that he preferred to serve in a country that aligns with his pan-African vision and political beliefs.
He highlighted South Africa's position as the continent's largest economy and its strong historical ties with Nigeria. He believes the nation shares his values regarding world affairs.
To actualize this switch, Fani-Kayode reached out to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar. The minister subsequently forwarded the request to President Tinubu, who granted the approval for the "straight swap."
