Marvel Studios has introduced a new face for Wakanda. British actor David Jonsson is now the new Black Panther.
The big announcement was made by director Ryan Coogler during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 on July 25.
Jonsson, 32, will take on one of Marvel’s most iconic roles. He will portray the grown-up version of T'Challa's son in the upcoming third instalment of the franchise.
Marvel confirmed he will play Prince T'Challa II, also known as Toussaint, the son of T'Challa and Nakia, in “Black Panther 3”. The film is scheduled for release on December 15, 2028.
It is a historic moment for the franchise. The role has not been recast since the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. Instead, Marvel honoured his legacy by introducing his young son at the end of Wakanda Forever.
Jonsson is no stranger to the big screen. He began acting in 2016 and has featured in major films like “Alien: Romulus” and “The Long Walk.” He also won the BAFTA Rising Star Award for 2025.

Speaking on stage, Jonsson thanked Marvel for the honour of joining the family. Fans in Hall H erupted in cheers as Marvel confirmed, “David Jonsson is your new Black Panther. Black Panther 3 arrives in theaters December 15, 2028”.
Ryan Coogler, who directed the first two Black Panther films, is returning to direct the third chapter.
