United States President Donald Trump has barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. He accused the outlets of propaganda and spreading fake news.
Trump said the organisations should not be allowed to constantly write or report fiction when covering the President.
The President announced the decision in a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social. He indicated that other media organisations he described as fake would face a similar ban.
He also accused Politico of receiving an illegal subscription payment. According to Trump, the platform received an $8 million subscription from the U.S. Government under former President Joe Biden in order to keep it alive.
The matter came up again during a press briefing in the Oval Office. A reporter reminded Trump that every President takes an oath to uphold the Constitution.
Trump defended his action. He said Americans are tired of fake news.
“You get so tired of reading and seeing fake news… there may be others to join them,” he said. “Our country has to have honest news.”
When another reporter asked if he was trying to intimidate the press, Trump replied sharply.
“No, no, no. I dislike dishonest press like you. I think you are terrible,” he said.
The President argued that a court should not allow false stories to be written daily. He said somebody has the right to keep them away if they keep writing false stories.
Trump also reacted to his approval rating. He criticised Fox News polls, describing them as the worst in the business. He said the network should have gotten rid of its pollsters years ago.
He went further to describe the Washington Post as disgusting. He insisted that his administration is not repressive.
“We don’t repress, but they write fake news,” Trump said.
