The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a broad-based campaign structure for the 2027 general elections, with Governor Peter Mbah appointed to lead the organisation.
OBGist gathered that the campaign council, which comprises 51 directorates, was announced on Monday by the state leadership of the party ahead of its formal inauguration.
Findings by OBGist indicate that the council represents the first major electoral machinery rolled out by the APC in Enugu since the sweeping political realignment of October 2025.
Governor Mbah, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on October 14, 2025, alongside members of the State Executive Council, State House of Assembly, 260 ward councillors, local government chairmen and over 80 per cent of PDP executives in the state, chairs the council.
According to information, the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; state chairman of the party, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike; and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, will serve as Vice Chairmen.
The list, jointly signed by Chukwunweike and the State Secretary, Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie, names Chief Charlie Mbah as Director-General of the Campaign Organisation and Dr. Eric Oluedo as Secretary-General.
OBGist learnt that the council will operate through three senatorial deputies. Deacon Okey Ogbodo will serve as Deputy DG for Enugu East, Dr. Dan Shere for Enugu North and Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye for Enugu West.
Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Ikeje Asogwa and Senator Kelvin Chukwu were appointed coordinators for Enugu West, Enugu North and Enugu East senatorial districts respectively.
In a move that underlines a wider political consolidation in the state, the APC also constituted an Advisory Council featuring prominent figures from across party lines.
The advisory roll includes former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani; former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo; former military governor of old Anambra State, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (Rtd.); former governors of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, Barr. Sullivan Chime and Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji; former Minister of Information and APGA governorship candidate in 2023, Mr. Frank Nweke Jr.; and business mogul, Prince Arthur Eze.
Also named are former deputy governors, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, Bishop Ralph Nwoye, Dr. Sunday Onyebuchi and Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, among others.
For strategic operations, Barr. Steve Oruruo was appointed Campaign Spokesperson and Director of Public Communication Committee, with Dr. Austin Okolie as co-spokesperson and Dr. Malachy Agbo as Secretary.
Mazi Uche Anichukwu and Dan Nwomeh, both from the governor's media team, head the Directorates of New Media and Strategic Communication and Mainstream Media. Dr. Collins Ogbu and Dr. Reuben Onyishi will serve as Secretaries.
Barr. Victor Udeh heads the Administration Directorate, while Dr. Ben Nwoye and Arc. Uche Nwatu lead the Fundraising Committee as Director and Co-Director.
Security is chaired by former Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla (Rtd.), with former Inspector-General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo (Rtd.), as Secretary.
The Directorate of Government Appointees Coordination (Federal and State) is headed by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, SAN, with Prof. Onyia as Secretary, while former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh, heads Inter-Party Affairs.
Other directorates include Women Mobilisation, headed by Mrs. Esther Edeh; Parliamentary Mobilisation, led by Senator Chuka Utazi; Contact and Mobilisation, led by Senator Ben Collins Ndu; Election Planning and Monitoring; Welfare; Event Management; Works and Venue; Support Groups, led by Hon. USA Igweshi; Creativity and Entertainment, led by Nollywood actress Rachael Okonkwo; and Town Unions Coordination.
In a joint statement, Chukwunweike and Nnadozie said the size of the council reflects a deliberate inclusion strategy.
"The conviction that every community, ward, local government area, professional group, support organisation, youth body, women’s group, elder, party faithful and person of goodwill must be seen, heard and meaningfully engaged," the statement read.
"Appointment into the campaign structure is therefore not merely an honour; it is a call to duty, accountability and measurable contribution," they added.
At the inauguration held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, Governor Mbah charged party members to campaign on verifiable performance and to be unapologetically APC.
Mbah said his administration had justified the mandate given in 2023, citing the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms in freeing up resources for subnationals. He referenced the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index, which ranked Enugu as the fastest-improving state with a momentum score of +1.15, and the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) report, which placed Enugu sixth nationally on Ease of Doing Business in 2025, up from 36th in 2023.
He disclosed plans to tour all 68 development centres in the state and commission at least two projects, including Smart Green Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, in each of the 260 political wards.
"You should be proud of Enugu. You should be unapologetically APC," Mbah told the gathering, noting that the opposition had little to offer beyond propaganda. He said the President had shown good faith to the South East through infrastructure interventions and strategic appointments despite the region’s marginal votes in 2023.
