NAF Confirms Aircraft Crashed in Ondo, Launches Search and Rescue Operation
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed ownership of the aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda area of Ondo State on October 5.
The NAF said the aircraft, an ATR-42, was on a routine mission from Benin in Edo State to Lagos when the accident occurred.
Director of Public Relations and Information, Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, adding that a rescue operation has been activated.
Search and Rescue Operation Activated
In the statement, the Air Force said it has commenced immediate search and rescue operations at the crash site in collaboration with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.
"The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has activated an immediate Search and Rescue operation following an ATR-42 aircraft accident in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on 5 October 2026.
The aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred. Search and Rescue operations, in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies, are currently ongoing.
The NAF is committed to ensuring the success of the ongoing Search and Rescue efforts. Further details will be communicated in due course," the statement read.
The NAF has disclosed that 32 persons are on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.
It also did not provide information on casualties.
The service said further updates will be provided as the rescue operation progresses.
