New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's personal account on X has lost its blue verification badge, days after he publicly criticised billionaire businessman Elon Musk in a post-election video.
The disappearance of the blue tick was noticed by users on Friday, November 6, 2026, prompting speculation about whether Musk had personally intervened or whether Mamdani's X Premium subscription had expired.
The development came two days after Mamdani published a video addressing the outcome of the November 4 US midterm elections, in which he challenged Democrats to focus on delivering their campaign promises rather than celebrating their electoral gains.
In the video, the mayor criticised the growing influence of wealthy individuals in American politics and specifically mentioned Musk.
"People are tired of being told that there isn't enough to go around while Elon Musk becomes the world's first trillionaire," Mamdani said.
He also argued that ordinary Americans were increasingly frustrated with rising living costs, including rent, childcare and grocery expenses.
Mamdani urged Democrats to translate their electoral success into practical improvements in people's lives, declaring that "it is not enough to simply win power. We must use it."
