In Abuja today, a major step was taken to reconnect global Nigerian talent with local development, as the Diaspora BRIDGE Platform officially launched. The initiative aims to tap into the knowledge and skills of Nigerians abroad to help reshape the country’s education landscape.
Among those in attendance was Enugu State Governor, who praised the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for driving this forward-thinking agenda.
“For too long, we’ve only measured the diaspora’s impact in terms of remittances,” he said. “Now, we’re recognizing their greater value—their ideas, innovations, and ability to help build a smarter, more resilient Nigeria.”
Enugu State is already putting this vision into action. Recognizing education as the bedrock of its future, the government is expanding its investment across all levels.
Two new institutions—Enugu State University of Education and Technology (ESUET) and Enugu State University of Agriculture and Technology (ESUAT)—are being established to strengthen higher learning. Alongside these, eight new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges are under construction—one in each federal constituency—to provide young people with hands-on, employable skills.
Innovation is at the core of the state’s strategy. Through the Center for Experiential Learning and Innovation (CELI), Enugu is overhauling traditional education methods by integrating digital tools, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality. The goal is to prepare students not just for today’s jobs—but for the careers of tomorrow in science, medicine, and technology.
In a bold infrastructure move, 260 Smart Green Schools are currently being built and are scheduled to open in September. These schools symbolize the state’s belief that human capital, not just natural resources, is the real wealth of a nation.
With all of these in motion, the Governor extended a warm invitation to Nigerians in the diaspora:
“When you think of STEMM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine—think Enugu State. Come join us. Be part of something transformative.”
