A court in Plateau State has sentenced a former student of Government Technical College Buruk, Emmanuel Ude, to death by hanging for killing his teacher, Mr. Job Dashe, in 2021.
The incident happened in July 2021 when Ude was still a student. He had broken dining hall rules and was asked by Mr. Dashe, who was a School master on duty, to open his food flask because it was suspected he got food illegally but Ude refused.
Not long after the argument, Ude went back to the hostel, picked up a knife, and returned to st@b Mr. Dashe in the chest. He ran away immediately.
Mr. Dashe was taken to a hospital on Vom Road but was later confirmed dead.
The police later arrested Ude. At the State CID, he confessed to the crime, and his confession was used as evidence in court.
The case was handled by prosecutors Nansil Mbah and Solomon Deme from the Plateau State Ministry of Justice. They told the court that the act was intentional. The trial lasted almost four years.
Ude's lawyer, Josil Drinkat, begged the court to be merciful because Ude showed regret during the trial. But the judge, Justice Silas Bakfur, said the law did not allow mercy in such a serious case.
“The court is convinced that the accused is guilty. The law is clear on what must happen,” the judge said.
Ude was found guilty of culpable homicide under the Plateau State Penal Code and was sentenced to death by hanging until he is confirmed dead.
