Ajibade Says Super Falcons Yet to Receive Tinubu’s $100,000 Pledge

Super Falcons star Rasheedah Ajibade has disclosed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 each promised by President Bola Tinubu after their triumph at the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Ajibade made the revelation in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, uploaded on YouTube via @WithChude.

“We have not received that money. They haven’t paid. Hopefully, they will. Please, they have not paid all the promises you’ve heard,” the Atlético Madrid forward said, noting that the squad is still waiting for their match bonuses and allowances months after the announcement.

Tinubu had in July approved the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each of the 24 players and $50,000 for every member of the 11-man technical crew. The team was also promised national honours and three-bedroom flats.

At the time, the President hailed the Falcons’ “awe-inspiring” performance, particularly commending their sportsmanship in visiting an injured South African opponent after their semi-final win. The Falcons went on to beat hosts Morocco 3–2 in the final.

A similar reward package was announced for the D’Tigress following their 2025 Women’s Afrobasket victory over Mali, including $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for the technical crew.

Ajibade, famed for her trademark blue braids and attacking flair, said the players are still hopeful the pledges will be honoured, but for now, “it’s a work in progress.”
