Proud Boys demand Pam Bondi’s resignation after DOJ moves to dismiss $100m lawsuit

Members of the far-right Proud Boys have asked U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to resign after the Justice Department filed a motion seeking to throw out their $100 million lawsuit against the federal government.

The suit, filed by Enrique Tarrio, Zachary Rehl, Domenic Pezzola and others, accuses the government of abusing the legal system to target allies of former President Donald Trump. They claim they were unfairly prosecuted and jailed over their role in the January 6 Capitol riots.

According to the filing, the lawsuit accuses federal authorities of witness intimidation, tampering with evidence, spying on defense teams, and violating attorney-client privileges. The group insists their Fourth Amendment rights were breached and describes their prosecution as malicious.

The Department of Justice, however, wants the case dismissed, arguing that the men failed to explore other legal remedies before suing. The DOJ also cited sovereign immunity and argued the plaintiffs had not proved their claims of malicious prosecution or rights violations.

Reacting after the motion was filed on August 25, the Proud Boys took to a social media space on X, calling for Bondi to step down. One participant, Isaac Thomas, a Trump-pardoned defendant, claimed Bondi’s DOJ was “pushing the same agenda as Biden’s regime.”

Their lawyer, Mark McCoskey, criticized the government’s stance, warning it could hurt similar compensation claims by hundreds of other January 6 defendants who were pardoned by Trump.

Bondi has not responded to the calls for her resignation, while the DOJ awaits a court ruling on its motion.
