FCT Police Summon Officers Seen Assaulting Civilians in Viral Video
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reacted to a viral video showing some of its officers physically assaulting members of the public.
The video, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday, October 21, captured the disturbing moment the policemen were seen slapping and dragging two men before forcing them into a patrol van.
The footage quickly drew widespread outrage from Nigerians online, with many calling for disciplinary action against the officers involved.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the officers had been identified and summoned for questioning.
In a statement posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has strongly condemned the officers’ conduct, describing it as “unprofessional and unacceptable.”
She wrote,
“All officers seen in the viral video have been identified and summoned to the Command Headquarters for interrogation. The complainants have also been invited to make formal statements to assist the investigation.”
