Mango Founder’s Death: Son Under Probe in Spain

Mango Founder’s Death:  Jonathan Andic his Son listed has a Suspect.

The death of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of global fashion brand Mango, has taken a dramatic twist as Spanish authorities now list his son, Jonathan Andic, as a suspect in the case.

Isak, aged 71, lost his life on December 14, 2024, after what was initially described as a hiking accident in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona. According to reports, he had gone on the hike with his eldest son, Jonathan, when tragedy struck.

The Times of London reported that the duo was walking along the Les Feixades trail — a popular route linking Collbató’s Salnitre caves to the Montserrat monastery — when Isak reportedly fell over 320 feet from a cliff.

Jonathan, 44, told investigators he had been walking ahead when he suddenly heard the sound of falling rocks. Turning around, he saw his father plummet off an unfenced section of the rocky path.

Initially, police concluded the fall was accidental. However, Spanish media outlets including El Periódico and El País now say inconsistencies in Jonathan’s testimony have triggered a deeper judicial review. The investigation, once classified as a mountain accident, has reportedly shifted toward a possible homicide.

Catalonia’s regional police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, are said to be re-examining evidence, including data retrieved from Jonathan’s mobile phone. Still, sources close to the investigation told El País that the primary working theory remains that the incident was an accident, as “no clear evidence to the contrary” has been found.

When contacted by People, a Mossos d’Esquadra spokesperson confirmed the case is “under judicial review and subject to secrecy of proceedings.”

Meanwhile, the Andic family has maintained its silence, choosing instead to express faith in the legal process. In a statement shared via Reuters, family representatives said:

“The Andic family has not commented, and will not comment, on Isak Andic’s death. It wishes to show respect for the ongoing proceedings and will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities. The family is confident this process will soon confirm Jonathan Andic’s innocence.”

Jonathan currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Mango Fashion Group, continuing the legacy of his late father.

In the wake of Isak’s passing, Mango CEO Toni Ruiz had described the billionaire as a man whose “strategic vision and leadership” shaped the company’s global success.

“Isak has been an example for all of us,” Ruiz said in his earlier tribute. “He dedicated his life to Mango, leaving a legacy of excellence, humility, and human warmth.”

As investigations continue, the global fashion world watches closely — waiting to see whether the tragic fall of Mango’s founder was truly an accident or something far more complex.
