Sowore Condemns Police Attack on Free Nnamdi Kanu Protest

Sowore Slams Police on Attack on Peaceful Protesters, said Police Won’t Have Attacked us if we were Bandits.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticized the Nigeria Police Force for attacking peaceful demonstrators in Abuja during the “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest.

Speaking on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television on Monday, Sowore said the attack happened because the protesters chose to remain peaceful instead of violent.

According to him, if they had been armed bandits, the police would have stayed far away.

“We were attacked simply because we were peaceful. If we were bandits, they wouldn’t dare come close,” Sowore said.

The protest, which took place across several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was organized to demand the release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore explained that the demonstration was not limited to social media activism but was physically staged at six major locations in Abuja, including Utako, Gudu, and Apo, where the largest crowd gathered.

He revealed that protesters later marched to the FCT Police Command, where officers reportedly fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Despite the violent response, Sowore emphasized that they would continue to pursue justice through non-violent means.

“We have chosen a peaceful approach, but a time will come when a new generation will no longer tolerate this kind of injustice,” he added.
