Eddie Murphy Drops Shocking Truth About Yul Brynner Invite

Eddie Murphy shocks fans with a surprising Studio 54 encounter as he reflects on fame, fatherhood and family in his new documentary.

Hollywood legend Eddie Murphy has stirred conversation with a revelation many fans never expected. In his new Netflix documentary, Being Eddie, the comic star opened up about a strange encounter he had on the night he turned 21 an encounter involving another screen icon, Yul Brynner.

Murphy said he celebrated his milestone birthday at New York’s famous Studio 54, a hotspot for celebrities in the early ’80s. While enjoying the night, Brynner reportedly approached him with an unusual invite.

According to him, Brynner who was at the club with a woman leaned in and asked if he would like to join them at his apartment for a private “after-party.” Murphy said he immediately declined, not even fully understanding the implication at the time.

He joked that he was too naïve then to figure out what the couple really wanted. “Did he want me to go sleep with his wife?” he laughed in the documentary, adding that the whole thing would have become one of Hollywood’s wildest stories if he had agreed.

Interestingly, Brynner wasn’t officially married in 1982, leaving questions about the identity of the woman beside him that night. The actor passed away three years later in 1985.

Beyond the surprising revelation, the documentary also highlights a calmer, more reflective side of Murphy. Now 64, the superstar said fatherhood completely reshaped his life and priorities. With ten children, he insists his family is at the center of everything he does.

His large blended family includes Eric, Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, Bella, Christian, Angel, and his two youngest kids with his wife, Paige Butcher.

Murphy also spoke about Angel — his child with British singer Mel B who now lives as a trans man. Despite the rocky past between both parents, Mel B revealed that Murphy and Angel have built a strong, healthy relationship, even taking trips together.

Their co-parenting journey wasn’t always smooth. Back in 2006, Murphy publicly questioned Angel’s paternity, a moment Mel B says he still apologises for. The pair had once shared an intense romance before things fell apart during her pregnancy, prompting years of tension.

But time has softened the rough edges. Mel B, now remarried, said she and Murphy have gradually restored trust for their child’s sake. She described their healing as something that happened “bit by bit.”

In her memoir, she went as far as calling Murphy the love of her life, revealing private memories that showed just how close they once were from tattooing each other’s signatures to sharing personal stories about their families.

Despite everything, she maintains that Murphy’s love was sincere, writing that he “showed what true love feels like.”
