Tinubu Halts G20 Trip Over Kebbi Kidnap, Kwara Attack

Tinubu suspends his planned South Africa and Angola trip as security concerns rise over the Kebbi schoolgirls’ abduction and Kwara attack.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put his planned visits to Johannesburg and Luanda on hold as the nation grapples with fresh security concerns.

The President is awaiting detailed briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The development was announced on Wednesday through a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Tinubu has ordered a stronger security presence in Eruku and across the Ekiti Local Government Area. He also instructed police authorities to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on worshippers.

Tinubu was originally scheduled to depart Abuja on Wednesday for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and later head to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit.

However, Onanuga said the President postponed his departure after being briefed on the disturbing incidents in both Kebbi and Kwara.

“He now awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as assessments from the police and the Department of State Services,” the statement noted.

The President further reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to do everything within their power to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return home.
