Guardiola Apologises After Heated Cameraman Clash at Newcastle

Pep Guardiola apologises after Newcastle defeat confrontation

Pep Guardiola apologises for confronting a cameraman after Man City’s loss to Newcastle, citing emotions and defending his team.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has expressed regret over his tense exchange with a cameraman after City’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Premier League champions were left fuming at several key decisions during the match, a waved-away penalty appeal, a handball claim, and a narrow offside call. By the final whistle, Guardiola’s frustration had clearly reached boiling point.

As soon as the game ended, the Spaniard walked straight onto the pitch to challenge referee Sam Barrott about the decisions. In the heat of the moment, he also pulled off a cameraman’s headphones to speak directly into his ear.

Speaking later, Guardiola said he had already apologised.

“I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I watch it back,” he admitted. “I apologised to the cameraman immediately. I’m not perfect,  after 1,000 games, I still make mistakes. I was trying to defend my team and my club.”

Tensions were high among the players as well. City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had to be guided towards the tunnel, while Newcastle’s midfielder Joelinton was restrained by manager Eddie Howe. Guardiola also exchanged words with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Guardiola downplayed the interaction with Guimaraes, saying they have always enjoyed a cordial relationship.

“We’ve known Bruno for years,” he said. “After almost every match, whether at St James’ Park or the Etihad, we talk. I don’t know what happened this time. I’m an emotional person, I talk with my hands, my arms, everything.”

Despite the heated scenes, Guardiola insists the apology stands and the matter is closed.
