Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe speaking in a TV interview about the 2027 election.

In a bold television interview, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has declared that President Bola Tinubu will not win a second term in the 2027 election.

The Abia South senator points directly to the severe economic hardship gripping the nation as the reason.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Abaribe dismissed the notion that Tinubu is unbeatable at the polls. He stated that the prevailing suffering has sharpened the political consciousness of ordinary Nigerians, who are now resolved to make a change.

“I do not think so. Everybody loses elections, and you will see when the time comes,” Abaribe said confidently. “He will lose in 2027 because I know what Nigerians are feeling outside.”

The lawmaker went a step further, contesting the legitimacy of the President’s 2023 victory. He asserted that Tinubu did not genuinely win that election but was declared the winner regardless.

“Tinubu never won the 2023 election, and everybody knows it,” he claimed. “We acknowledge him as president, but we are going to meet him in the field.”

He promised a different scenario in 2027, insisting that the opposition and the electorate would be fully prepared to prevent any late-night surprise declarations.

Addressing the recent rush of politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abaribe firmly ruled out ever joining the party. He quipped that he would only consider it if it were the last party standing in Nigeria.

He argued that these defections are actually a strategic weakness for the APC. According to him, the influx is creating internal strife and leadership problems that will ultimately benefit the opposition.

Abaribe reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition coalition, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the next election.

He dismissed claims that the coalition is merely a vehicle for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that their unified goal is to remove the APC from power.
