Tragedy strikes in Nasarawa as gunmen ambush a police patrol, killing an inspector and two civilians from the same family.
Armed assailants have struck a police patrol team in Nasarawa State, leaving three persons dead. The violence unfolded on the evening of Monday, December 14.
The attack occurred along the isolated Ajimaka Village road, which leads to Rukubi town. A team of officers from Operation Restore Peace, working with local vigilantes, was on a routine patrol when they were ambushed.
Leading the patrol was Inspector Jampi Mbursa. He was killed alongside two other victims, identified as Julius Igbogh and his son, Raphael Julius. Both civilians were residents of Ajimaka Village.
After the shooting, the gunmen seized the fallen inspector's official AK-47 rifle. The weapon was loaded with thirty rounds of ammunition. The attackers then fled the scene, disappearing into the night.
The three victims were swiftly transported to the General Hospital in Rukubi. Medical personnel on duty could only confirm their deaths.
Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary as investigations commence. The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the incident.
Authorities have vowed to track down those responsible. A major operation is now underway to recover the stolen rifle and bring the perpetrators to justice. This attack raises renewed concerns about security on rural roads in the region.
