Imo State Police headquarters amid allegations involving Tiger Base in Owerri

A police staff attached to the controversial Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command, popularly known as Tiger Base, has raised alarm over alleged threats to life, intimidation and an ongoing plot to dismiss her from service.

Police personnel attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police, known as Tiger Base in Owerri, have accused the unit’s commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, of alleged abuse of power, intimidation and professional victimisation.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on Saturday, January 3, one of the affected officers said she had been subjected to sustained humiliation and threats, which she described as life-endangering.

“I am being humiliated by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, who is the commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Owerri, Imo State,” the officer said.

The officer alleged she was falsely accused of collaborating with activists and social commentators, including former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, VeryDarkMan and Nonso Nkwa, to discredit Tiger Base over its alleged excesses.

“I have been accused of working with Sowore, Nonso Nkwa and VeryDarkMan to bring Tiger Base down. I have proof,” she stated.

According to her, she had worked at Tiger Base for over five years before the conflict escalated, claiming the situation worsened after she allegedly rejected a personal relationship with the commander.

“Because I refused to go ahead with my relationship with Mr Ola, he has sworn to dismiss me from the job,” she alleged.

Transfer to ‘Dangerous’ Posting and Ignored Safety Concerns

The officer further alleged that she was transferred from Tiger Base to Egbema Division on October 18, 2025, a posting she described as highly dangerous due to repeated threats to her life.

“I have been threatened with terrorism several times, which the commander knows about,” she said.

She claimed that despite raising safety concerns and receiving assurances that her posting would be reviewed, no action was taken.

“I waited for weeks… but nothing happened,” she added.

Months later, the officer said she was informed that her dismissal letter had already been prepared.

“I was called by someone working with the provost that they have typed my dismissal letter,” she alleged.

She further claimed that attempts to contact ACP Odeyeyiwa were unsuccessful and that he accused her of seeking information to pass to activists.

The officer also alleged that the commander openly discussed plans to dismiss her with his girlfriend, who allegedly shared the information with others.

Describing the atmosphere within the command, the officer alleged that ACP Odeyeyiwa and the Chief Security Officer to the Imo State Government, CSP Shaba, wield unchecked influence.

“CSO Shaba and Oladimeji are like gods in Imo State. Every police officer is afraid of them,” she said.

She expressed fear for her life, claiming she possessed knowledge of serious misconduct within Tiger Base but felt unsafe speaking out.

“I know a lot going on in that office, but I am afraid because they are deadly,” she alleged.

Call for Urgent Intervention

Appealing for intervention, the officer said her safety and livelihood were at stake.

“I am the breadwinner of my family and wouldn’t want them to be harmed,” she said.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Imo State Police Command, ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa and CSP Shaba were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
