Former France striker Wissam Ben Yedder can finally breathe a sigh of relief. An appeals court in France has officially dismissed the rape-related charges against him, ruling that there is simply not enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

The decision, delivered by the Aix-en-Provence appeals court, effectively puts an end to the prosecution's attempt to try the footballer for rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault. This ruling clears the 35-year-old of the allegations that have hung over him since 2023.

Reacting to the news, his lawyer, Sophia Kerbaa, expressed deep satisfaction. She noted that Ben Yedder has always maintained his innocence regarding the claims made by two teenage women following a party two years ago.

While this is a major legal victory, the former AS Monaco captain is no stranger to the courtroom. His career has been clouded by several legal battles recently. Just last September, he was fined €90,000 for the psychological abuse of his wife.

He also holds a conviction for tax fraud in Spain and is currently appealing a separate two-year suspended sentence related to a different sexual violence case in France.

On the pitch, Ben Yedder has kept moving. After leaving Monaco in 2024, he had short stints in Iran and Turkey. He eventually found a new home in January, signing with the Moroccan giants, Wydad Casablanca.

His case is part of a growing list of high-profile footballers facing serious legal scrutiny in Europe. Other stars, including Achraf Hakimi and Thomas Partey, have also been linked to similar legal proceedings in recent times.
