Tinubu Asks Senate to Fast-Track State Police Amendment

President Bola Tinubu has made a strong case for the creation of State Police to tackle Nigeria's security challenges.

During a special Iftar dinner with Senators at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, the President urged the National Assembly to begin the process of amending the constitution.

He believes this move is the surest way to secure the country’s vast forests and protect children from the hands of kidnappers and bandits.

Addressing the lawmakers, the President admitted that the nation is currently at a crossroads with terrorism and insurgency. However, he expressed total confidence that a localized policing system would give the government the upper hand in the fight against crime.

"We must free our children from fear," Tinubu told the Senators. He encouraged them to look for the most effective ways to bring State Police into the nation's laws, noting that the time for such a reform is now.

Beyond security, the President reflected on his administration’s tough economic decisions. He thanked the Senate for their support in removing the fuel subsidy, which he described as a "monumental corruption" that had drained the country for years.

He noted that while the reforms have been bold, they were necessary to stop the manipulation of foreign exchange and fix the economy.

According to him, Nigeria is finally seeing a stable economy, and prosperity is just around the corner if the government and the legislature continue to work together.
