Nigeria’s business registration enters a new era as the CAC hits 10,000 daily requests using AI technology.
Nigeria’s business landscape is witnessing a massive digital shift. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has revealed that it now handles approximately 10,000 business registration requests every single day.
This represents a huge leap from the past, when the commission dealt with only a few hundred applications daily.
Speaking at the CAC’s 35th-anniversary lecture in Abuja, the Registrar-General, Hussaini Magaji, credited this growth to the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their service platforms.
The surge in applications comes as more informal traders move to formalize their operations, spurred by recent tax reforms and the rise of social media-driven enterprises.
Magaji noted that the digital upgrade isn’t just about new registrations. The commission's systems now manage over 5,000 customer inquiries daily through automated emails and call centers.
He admitted that handling such a heavy workload manually would have been impossible.
The journey to a fully digital registry hasn't been without hiccups. The transition to the AI-powered portal in 2025 faced some early technical challenges.
However, the Registrar-General thanked Nigerians for their patience, noting that the reforms are now yielding positive results.
Backing this digital drive, the House of Representatives and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have pledged legislative and technical support to keep the CAC’s infrastructure world-class.
This update follows a major "cleanup" where the CAC deregistered 400,000 inactive companies to maintain the registry's integrity.
On a more supportive note, the commission recently provided free registration to 250,000 small business owners through a partnership with SMEDAN.
Looking forward, the CAC is teaming up with Google to boost system reliability. New features, including an AI legal assistant and an automatic business name generator, are also being rolled out to make starting a business in Nigeria easier than ever.
