Enugu State vaccination drive reaches 2.1 million children, protecting them from measles, rubella, and cervical cancer.
Enugu State has recorded a significant breakthrough in its public health sector. More than 2.1 million children across the state have been successfully vaccinated against measles, rubella, and cervical cancer.
This achievement marks the successful conclusion of "Stream 2" of the state’s integrated vaccination campaign.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed the figures on Wednesday, praising the effort to reach children in even the most remote and underserved communities.
The massive health drive was a collaborative effort. The Enugu State Government worked alongside the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
To ensure the campaign’s integrity, over 60 independent monitors were deployed across all 17 Local Government Areas.
These monitors were tasked with tracking real-time data and identifying any "missed" children to ensure the exercise was thorough.
Faith O., an NYSC member who served as a monitor, shared her experience on the field. She noted that being part of the team allowed her to see firsthand how vital these vaccines are for the safety of the community.
The WHO emphasized that such campaigns are the best defense against dangerous outbreaks. By strengthening monitoring systems, the state has built a solid foundation for future health interventions.
With this successful rollout, Enugu continues to lead the way in proactive healthcare, ensuring that no child is left behind due to their location or background.
