The world of gospel music is in mourning following the transition of the legendary American worship leader and singer, Dr. Ron Kenoly

The iconic "Professor of Praise" passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the age of 81, marking the end of a remarkable era in contemporary Christian music.

News of his passing sent shockwaves across the globe, particularly in Nigeria, where his high-energy praise anthems have been a staple in churches for decades. 

His death was confirmed by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda, who described Kenoly as a "generational gift" who prioritized true worship over mere entertainment.

In Nigeria, prominent gospel ministers took to social media to honor the man who paved the way for modern worship. 

Acclaimed trumpeter and singer, Nathaniel Bassey, shared a deeply emotional post on Instagram, thanking Kenoly for his immense influence.

"Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me," Bassey wrote. He reflected on how he grew up listening to Kenoly’s songs, noting that today’s worship leaders are standing on the shoulders of the late icon. 

Other ministers, including Dunsin Oyekan and Frank Edwards, joined in celebrating a life dedicated to the service of God.

Ron Kenoly wasn't just a singer; he was a pioneer who revolutionized how the world experienced "Praise and Worship." 

His live recording albums in the 1990s, such as Lift Him Up and God Is Able, became international bestsellers and gold standards for congregational singing.
