Adeleke Cuts Working Hours for Osun Workers Amid Fasting

Governor Adeleke reduces working hours for Osun workers to support those fasting during Ramadan and the Lent season.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State approving new welfare policies for civil servants.

The Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially reduced daily working hours for public servants.

This adjustment comes as many residents across the state begin the spiritual journey of the Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.

The Governor explained that the gesture is aimed at helping workers balance their official duties with their religious obligations.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the goal is to give workers more time for prayer and spiritual activities.

The new schedule officially kicks off today, Thursday, February 19, 2026. Civil servants will now close at 2:00 pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the work day ends even earlier at 1:00 pm.

The Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, confirmed the news in a circular, describing the change as a key part of the Governor’s welfare package for the people.

He noted that the state recognizes the importance of this period for both Muslims and Christians.

However, there is an important exception. Essential workers, particularly medical personnel, are not included in this new arrangement.

Because of the critical nature of their work in hospitals and clinics, they will maintain their regular shifts to ensure healthcare services remain uninterrupted.

All heads of government agencies, local government authorities, and accounting officers have been directed to enforce the new timetable immediately. This temporary change will remain in force only until the fasting seasons are over.
